COVID-19 Update & My Thoughts

So, where do I begin with this? COVID-19, the deadly virus happening all around the world and sending people in major panic and panic buying of certain products, like toilet paper … yes, seriously there is a major buy up on toilet paper and this has been going on for a period of time and is still happening to this day. The supermarkets here in Australia now have a 1 packet limit of toilet paper as a result of the bulk panic buying. They have also now put a limit on the purchases of mince, rice, pasta, tissues as well as other in-store products. This is just totally insane.

Recently Australia went through our worst days as bush fires crippled most of our country and everyone was supporting and caring for each other. Now that COVID-19 has hit, that has all changed. It is now everyone for themselves. The fights, the stabbings, the police having to use tasers on people, just over fucking toilet paper, like seriously people come on this is a fucking joke.

Here and around the world, flights are being cancelled, sporting matches cancelled, schools closed, mass gatherings over 500 people banned (they are now also considering reducing this number) and the list of things just keep going on. They tell us to continue on with our daily lives. How? You cripple our public transport system, so people can’t get to work. There is panic in the CBD where there are masses of more than 500 people so people aren’t going in, so what are people supposed to do? You can’t go on as normal if this is in your daily routine.

People with a major compromised immune system already are at a high risk of death if we catch this COVID-19. Yeah great, that is just what we need to hear isn’t it? Send our anxiety and panic levels through the damn roof in an already panicked country, a panicked world that we are living in. People everywhere have gone mental. I wonder if this is actually a symptom of the virus. If that is the case then we are all fucked. Plain and simple.

I know we are in scary times right now, but people seriously need to calm the fuck down. Stop the panic buying, stop trying to stab people over toilet paper, stop wasting our emergency services times by attending fights, stabbings all related to panic buying. They have more important and serious things to attend too. Be respectful to everyone in society. Remember the way we were when we had our bushfire crisis and how we got through that, all together, looking out for one an another. We need to do that again now. We need to bring that spirit back. What is happening now is not us as Australians. It never has been and it never should be.

Honestly, this is reminding me in a way back to the Cronulla Riots days. In a different aspect of course. But this is the memories that this drags back up. And it is so un-Australian. Come on people it is time to grow up, it is time to respect everyone else. It is not just YOU that needs toilet paper, tissues, mince, rice, pasta and staple items from the supermarket. A lot of welfare and low-income earner survive week to week on these items in general and you are hoarding them because of your panic buying. You are going to make people die or starve as a result of what you’re doing.

This shit needs to stop and it needs to stop now, it has already gone way too fucking far.
