Just Trying to Get Through It

OMG, today has been one of those days where everything just seems to be getting on top of me.

Right now, I am dealing with some really bad stomach pains, and I honestly think they may be connected to the reduction in my pain medication. I have to say, the reduction hasn’t been going particularly well for me so far. I understand why changes to medication sometimes need to happen, but that doesn’t make dealing with the consequences any easier.

To make matters worse, I have also been dealing with a really severe case of the runs. For someone in a wheelchair, this makes an already unpleasant situation even more difficult and stressful. I’ve lost count of how many showers I’ve had and how many times I’ve had to change my clothes today alone. It’s exhausting, frustrating and, quite honestly, embarrassing at times.

I am just hoping things settle down soon because I really don’t want the next few days to continue like this.

There is also a bit of uncertainty ahead because my CoS is away for the next two weeks starting Monday. Hopefully everything will be okay while she is away, but I am a little concerned because I don’t currently have anyone else who can step in and act on my behalf if something comes up.

Having someone in your corner who understands your situation and can advocate for you is really important to me. So knowing that person won’t be around for the next couple of weeks does make me feel a little uneasy. I’m just hoping I won’t need to deal with anything major while she’s away.

Then there is the situation with my cleaner, which has really annoyed me.

This past Monday was my cleaner’s final day because she is moving to the Hunter. The frustrating part is that I didn’t actually find out it was her last shift until Monday itself. Now I’ve been told that it could be another two or even three weeks before I get another cleaner.

That is what really gets to me.

Apparently, they have known for several weeks that she was leaving. So why wasn’t something organised earlier? Why wait until the person’s final shift before telling the clients who rely on that service every week?

It’s not just me who is affected either. There are numerous clients who depend on these workers and their regular support. When you rely on services like this, communication is incredibly important. We need to know what is happening and, where possible, have arrangements made before a service suddenly disappears.

I find the lack of communication incredibly frustrating. It shouldn’t be up to the client to find out at the last minute that their regular support is no longer going to be available.

At the moment, it feels like several things are happening at once, and I’m just trying to keep myself together and take things one day at a time.

Hopefully the stomach problems settle down, the next couple of weeks go smoothly while my CoS is away, and a new cleaner can be organised sooner rather than later.

Sometimes you just have to take a deep breath, deal with whatever is in front of you, and keep moving forward.
