No More Prosthetic

After 1596 days, I have made the very difficult decision to end everything to do with my prosthetic. I just can no longer go on the way things have been. I would get up and about with Bodie once a week for one or two weeks, have another fall, get a wound on my stump, then have to wait for it to 100% heal. This means being off the prosthetic for 4 to 6 months and having to start the process all over again. I have done this so many times now, and I just can’t do it anymore.

This has not been an easy decision to make. It means that for the rest of my life I will be in my wheelchair. Which I have done for 1596 days anyway, so it’s not like I am not used to it by now. I just need to try to get some more upper arm strength to help push myself around day to day.

A lot of people in my life don’t understand, nor support the decision I have made. But at the end of the day, it’s my life and my decision, and I have made it. But also remember, this is a decision that took some time to think about and talk to the most important people in my life before I made the final decision on this.

A lot of other people do understand my decision when I explained where my head is at with this and having to constantly start again.

At this time, after more than 4 years and 4 months since the amputation, I should be up and walking unaided or at least with just my walking stick. But with all the major setbacks, I am nowhere near that stage, which is why I have made this decision.

Enough from me for now. I will post more soon. Check back in a day or two, or even better, subscribe in the left menu and get new post updates straight to your email.
