A Long Night & Frustrating Morning

At 2:55am, I’m still awake because my stump is causing me a lot of pain. Earlier, I took my scooter to Ettalong and had a can of Pepsi by the water. I hoped the ride might tire me out enough to get some sleep before my 8:15 doctor’s appointment, but so far, no luck. Other than that appointment, my calendar is clear today.

The rest of the week is busier. On Wednesday, I have a podiatrist appointment and my weekly check-in with my NDIS coordinator. Friday is my regular routine with Chaice, and on Saturday, Bodie will take me out into the community for the day. I haven’t decided what we’ll do yet; I’ll work that out closer to the time.

Yesterday morning, the plumber came back to fix the toilet. Once again, DCJ declined his request to install a disabled toilet seat. He told me they want proof that I’m disabled and use a wheelchair.

I was furious. DCJ already has hospital paperwork from 2022 documenting my left leg amputation and the fact that I use a wheelchair. Staff even visited me in hospital that October to sign the lease for my forever home. They saw me in my wheelchair, with my leg amputated. So being asked to prove it all over again feels deeply frustrating.

My GP surgery, NDIS coordinator and local MP’s office have all agreed that the request is unreasonable. I understand someone from DCJ may visit my home this week to verify my disability, but I haven’t been contacted or given any details about that visit.

This morning, I’m speaking to my GP to ask for a letter confirming my left leg amputation in 2022 and that I use a wheelchair.

I’ll share more soon. For now, I’m going to play some games—probably Diablo IV.
