There is certainly a lot going on in my life at the moment, and unfortunately, my health continues to throw a few more challenges my way. Right now, I am dealing with some significant issues affecting my only remaining leg, and I thought it was time to share an update with everyone.
As many of you know, having already undergone a below-knee amputation on my left leg, looking after my remaining right leg is incredibly important. Any problems affecting it are something I have to take seriously, as the consequences could be significant.
I want to explain a little about what has been happening before sharing a couple of photos showing what my foot looks like as of this morning.
The first photo: The MRSA staph infection
The first photo shows the MRSA staph infection that I have been dealing with. Thankfully, it is slowly healing, although there are still several wounds across the top of my foot, along with a considerable amount of dry skin and other issues that need attention.
At this stage, we still don’t know exactly how I picked up the infection, which is frustrating in itself. As you can also see in the photo, I am missing my little toe, which was amputated back in 2021.
It has been a long road dealing with these ongoing foot problems, and while I am glad to see some signs of healing, there is still a way to go.
The second photo: An accidental burn
The second photo shows something else I have had to deal with recently: a burn that I sustained in the shower about a week ago.
Unfortunately, I have reduced sensation in that area of my leg, which meant I didn’t realise just how hot the shower water was. By the time I became aware of the problem, I had already burned myself.
It is a frustrating reminder of just how careful I need to be, particularly when it comes to things that most people wouldn’t normally think twice about. From now on, I will need to be extra cautious and make sure I check the water temperature properly before getting into the shower.
I am now taking antibiotics because of the risk of the burn becoming infected, which could create even more serious complications given everything else going on with my foot. The burn has also been cleaned, dressed, covered and bandaged to help protect it.
I must admit, with all the bandaging, I look a little bit like a bandaged bear at the moment!
Taking things one day at a time
As you can probably imagine, having so much happening with my remaining leg is stressful. After everything I have already been through with my health over the past few years, the last thing I need is another complication.
I am trying to take things one day at a time and do what I can to look after myself. My remaining foot is something I simply cannot afford to take risks with, so I need to be extra vigilant and make sure any new problems are dealt with as quickly as possible.
I will continue to keep an eye on how things are healing and follow the advice of my medical team.
For now, I am just hoping that both the infection and the burn continue to improve without any further complications. Sometimes, all you can do is take things as they come, stay as positive as possible and keep moving forward, even when life throws another challenge your way.
Thanks to everyone who continues to follow my journey and take the time to read my updates. I appreciate the support more than you probably realise.
